I was talking to this pretty girl on OkCupid about nerdy things last night/this morning (even though both our profiles say we rarely reply to messages)…
and then she deleted her account and now I have a sad.
So I speak as a person with very little experience, feeling out the online dating thing…
But I swear it’s harder with girls.
Like most girls who are 1) at least passably cute 2) can string a semi-interesting sentence together on their profile, I get a decent amount of messages from guys. (and let’s be honest, a lot of the time that second part is completely irrelevant to them.)
Girls on the other hand… We’ll stalk each other’s page and like each other’s pictures, but neither of us seem to send that first message. Are we just used to being approached first? Or does everyone become useless and uncomfortable in the face of online dating?
My general method of getting to know people in real life or social media tends to be to treat them like they’re already friends… Because I’m honestly too awkward to go about it any other way than “I see we both like [insert topic here]. I hope you will also like the giant weirdo that I am.”
That doesn’t really work when trying to date someone online because you have minimal information available and also don’t want to be creepy.
